"I am SO-O-O-O-O excited! I have been taking the sheet
of reading skills that Beth handed out during her presentation (the one listing
which skills are covered by which module) and showing it to my home schooling
clients! What a response! "…There simply is not a better, more complete, more fun reading program out there ANYWHERE! -- Connie Dean "This is going to be a huge hit, not only with home schoolers, but with other people who want their kids to learn and have fun while doing it." -- Kathy Burgoa "This is an AMAZING program!" -- Marla Baer-Peckham "We got to see the demo of Make Reading Fun! Looks like it will really be phenomenal." -- June Burnett "…There are so many possibilities: individuals as well as schools should really appreciate the completeness of the program compared to existing programs. Beth Bridgman has done a great job and any time I have an opportunity to hear her talk about reading/learning and education I learn something." -- Sue Smalheiser "The programs were so much fun to play with and the ideas are great." -- Sarah Smith "Make Reading Fun! is a complete program. It has phonics, contextual learning, sight words, reading comprehension.... everything that children need to read English. Since it is such a complex language, phonics alone doesn't cut it. Make Reading Fun! will teach the reading skills that kids need, from pre-reading and reading readiness to improving reading comprehension and sight word skills for current readers. It's self-paced… which is GREAT for kids. They certainly can't learn something that their little brains aren't ready for. I also love that it can be used with every kid in the family. There aren't consumable workbooks and the printables can be used as many times as you'd like. This is a fantastic program. Let's share it with EVERYONE!" -- Kim Hamilton "I like the idea of multi media--visuals & auditory! I like using REAL BOOKS--especially ones with great illustrations that children can relate to and which draw in their interest. In this day and age, children are into COLORFUL, interactive programs with stuff they can relate to, not just 'See Spot run'." --
Kassandra Toney "Usborne is a book company that already has the
experience in creating entertaining ways for children to learn and Educational
Development Corporation is making a phonics program tailored to those books that
goes way beyond the books alone. And, they have over 1000 titles to supplement
the program! "In addition to having the books themselves on the
disc--where the kids can have them read to them--the pictures are lightly
animated (some icons on each page have sounds attached to them); there are 691
pages of activity sheets to print out to reinforce learning; and there are all
kinds of activity games to play: matching, drag and drop, click on the
answer-picture. It is set up so
most of them will not let you click on the wrong answer and then when the right
answer is chosen the child is praised. The games are incredible! They aren't
just fluff games--they really teach the phonics principles. But they incorporate
the pictures and words and sounds from the books so it is all entertaining and
fun. "It progresses well from skill level to skill level; even for the older kids, they will enjoy starting with the earlier modules and reviewing things they already know before moving on to the next level. With all this included it will be a LONG TIME before the child has done all the activity sheets and games." -- Shannon Quicksall “I have a friend who
purchased the set for her 7 yr. old son who has a disease that is deforming his
skull and it puts pressure on his brain so he has a hard time retaining
information. He is in every available service that is offered in the public
school, Title 1 reading, remedial reading program etc. He began using the first
module during Christmas Break and when he returned to school his Title 1 teacher
asked what had my friend been doing with him, he had soared past all the other
students in the program. She told them the only thing she was doing differently
was the MRF program. “Next thing I know the Curriculum
Coordinator at the school is calling me asking for information about
the MRF [program] and asks my friend if he can
borrow her sets to check out. A month later he is asking for a letter outlining
the total cost per unit and telling me he thinks it is the perfect tool for the
Title 1 program but he has to wait for the money to be released. (Title 1 is a
federally funded program.) At that time he was thinking about purchasing 4-6
complete sets. “Well, he borrowed the complete set
again from my friend to have the teachers 'play' with it to see what they
thought and the end result was an order for 12 MRF Comprehensive Sets! “I asked him what it is that he likes
about the MRF and this is what he told me: ‘This
is no Mickey Mouse program, it is an extraordinary teaching/ learning tool. It
is so complete, each module will cover 9 weeks of learning. It is the closest
thing to having a live teacher with each student. It can be used as a complete
curriculum. I want it in the Title 1 program, Remedial Reading Program, ESL
Program and every Kindergarten and 1st grade classroom.’ “He also told me that he would expect
a program of 'this caliber' to cost much more and that thousands of dollars are
wasted on materials for these programs that don't have a tenth of the value of
the MRF. “I hope this information can be
helpful to others!” -- Debra McGovern |
