1) I get an error that says it doesn't recognize the file type, when trying to view the printable activities.  What should I do?

This usually happens when trying to view the printables from the Internet Explorer 4.0 (or earlier) browser.  There are two ways to get around this problem:
1) You may upgrade your browser, by going to www.microsoft.com/downloads and downloading the latest Internet Explorer browser (currently, version 5.01).

2) You may open the printables directly through Adobe Acrobat Reader.  First, while viewing the Make Reading Fun!™ printable activities menu on your browser, take note of the filename to the right of the printable activity title.  Then minimize or close the Make Reading Fun!™ window.  If you already have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, go to Start, Programs and find Acrobat Reader in your list.  Open it then click on File, Open and browse to your CD drive.  Locate the file name that you took note of earlier and double-click it.  This will open the file within Acrobat Reader.  If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you may download it from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.

(NOTE:  You must open Acrobat Reader after downloading it and follow the instructions given, to complete the installation process.)

Alternatively, install from the acrobatinstall folder provided on each CD, then follow the above instructions.  To return to the Make Reading Fun!™ program, either minimize or close the Acrobat Reader application then maximize or re-open Make Reading Fun!™.

4) How do I view the printable activities from the Flash Printable Activities menu?

From the Flash Printable Activities menu, you can go to and view each printable activity by clicking on its filename.  Then you can either return to the Flash menu (using the index button) to click on the next desired file, or choose the next page and previous page buttons at the top of the printable page to see the next or previous pages in that activity.

5) I have a PC and no browser; I can use Flash, but the printables don't print clearly.  Is there another way I can do this?

Install the Adobe Acrobat Reader from the acrobatinstall folder (on each CD).  After installing, Adobe Acrobat Reader should be available to you on your Start menu. Click Start, then Programs, then Adobe Acrobat, and then Adobe Acrobat Reader.  After the program loads, click on File, then Open and go to yourCD drive.  Upon accessing your CD drive you should be able to find and click on any file in the window with the extension of.pdf.  This will open the file and from there you can choose File and Print to print it.

6) I have a Mac and no browser.  Is there a way I can print the printables files?

Install the Adobe Acrobat Reader from the acrobatinstall folder (on each CD).  After installing, double click on the CD icon on your desktop and look at the CD contents.  Any file that has the .pdf extension is a 'printables' file.  To open, just double click the file.  this will open your Adobe Acrobat Reader and display the printables file.  Click on File, then Print to print the file.  You can repeat this with each .pdf on the CD.

7) Do I have to print each printable page separately or can I print them all at once?

From within the default Flash Printable Activities segment, you must print out each page separately.  To do this, just click on the "print me" button at the top of each printable page.  This will print only the page that you are currently viewing.  To see the next page, choose the next page button, then print that page in the same way.
From within the browser Adobe Acrobat Printable Activities menu, you may print an entire printable activity simply by clicking on the desired file and opening it in Acrobat Reader, then choosing the File drop down menu, and its Print option.  By default this will print all pages in the file, or you can specify only certain pages to print.  When you have successfully printed one printable activity file, you may return to the Acrobat menu by clicking the Back button on your browser.  Then select the next file and print it in the same way.

8) How do I print more than one copy of each printable page?

From within the default Flash Printable Activities segment, when you click the "print me" button of any printable page, you will get a Print window that will let you confirm what printer you want to print to, what pages you want to print and how many copies you want printed.  In the area where you can choose the number of copies, all you need to do is type in the number of copies you want and click the OK button at the bottom of the screen. This will print the page you are viewing, the number of times you specified (so if you specified 5, you will get 5 copies of the page you're viewing). If you decide you don't want to print, simply click Cancel.  The window will go away, and nothing will print.
From within the browser Adobe Acrobat Printable Activities menu*, you click on and open the printable activity you want to print.  When the file has opened, choose File, then Print.  You will get a window similar to the one described above.  The difference is that this will print not only the page you're currently viewing, but the entire activity's file (so if you put in 5, you will get 5 copies of each page in the file).  Or if you choose to have only certain pages printed rather than the entire activity's file, it will print 5 copies of the pages you choose.
* Access the link to this Printable Activities menu, at the bottom of the default Flash Printable Activities menu screen.
