Fun!™ CD Help 2) I don't have Internet access and am being prompted to download Shockwave, what should I do? 4) How do I adjust the sound volume in the program? 6) Whom do I contact if my question isn't answered here? 1) I'm trying to view the storybook on the ABE or Alphabet Book CD and am being prompted to download Shockwave, what should I do? (If you do not have a browser or cannot download from the Internet, please refer to Question 2 below.) For PC: If you are prompted to install Shockwave while trying to view a storybook you may connect to your internet service and download the Shockwave plug-in as you are prompted to do. This will begin the install process. Follow the instructions in the install wizard to finish the process. Once Shockwave is successfully installed, you may open the Make Reading Fun! Program again by double clicking on Startpc.exe. This time when you go into the storybook portion of the program, you should not be prompted to download. 2) I don't have Internet access and am being prompted to download Shockwave, what should I do? The Shockwave Player is available to install from both the ABC and Alphabet Book CDs. If you are prompted to download, STOP and follow these instructions: 3) I get an error that says it doesn't recognize the file type, when trying to view the printable activities. What should I do?
1) You may upgrade your browser, by going to www.microsoft.com/downloads and downloading the latest Internet Explorer browser (currently, version 5.5). 4) How do I adjust the sound volume in the program? There is no function programmed into the Make Reading Fun!™ software for you to adjust the volume. Of course, raising the volume on your computer will raise the volume within the program. To do this, either exit out of or minimize the Make Reading Fun!™ program. (If you have questions on how to do this, see the section in these help pages that covers minimizing and closing.) On the bottom right hand corner of your Windows screen there is a small bar showing time of day. Below or beside that, there will be a small yellow speaker icon. If you single left-click on the icon, you should get a small volume control. Click on the slide bar and drag it up or down (up for higher volume and down for lower). This should increase your sound levels appropriately. If upon re-entering the program, you still find your levels too low, minimize the Make Reading Fun!™ program again, find your speaker icon and double left-click on it. This will open a larger volume control window, with several slide bars on it. Each of these controls a different aspect of your PC volume. Raising all of these should put your volume levels at maximum for your computer. If this still fails to raise the volume in the program to appropriate levels, check your computer's external speakers for a volume control and raise the volume there until you reach an optimum volume. Macintosh users – If your machine has an external volume control, try adjusting this first. Otherwise, under the Apple menu, both the Apple CD Audio Player and Control Panels (Sound) options contain slide-bar controls that operate similarly to the Windows sound controls detailed above. 5) I'm using the Make Reading Fun! Program on a Mac and when I try to go into the Printables, I'm only getting a blank white screen. What should I do? During testing, we found that occasionally a Mac user would experience a problem with being unable to get into the Printables section on some CDs. If you are experiencing this problem, you can get to this area by finding the file called printabls.html and double clicking on it. This will open the browser version of the Printable Activities menu and allow you to view each printable file via Adobe Acrobat Reader. 6) Whom do I contact if my question isn't answered here? If you do not find the answer to your question in this FAQ listing you may contact Technical Support for this product by emailing disksupport@ubah.com or calling 800-611-1655.
